Can I Have A Firearms Permit With A Medical Marijuana Prescription?

Cannabis is a prescription medication just like any other that you would receive from your medical provider. Firearms permits are issued by the county, not the state. The State of New York’s position is that it is up to the individual county to determine if a medical cannabis prescription excludes you from obtaining or maintaining a firearms permit. Please contact your individual county police department or sheriff. There is no state law that specifically addresses this issue. After you speak with your county law enforcement official, contact us for an evaluation.

How Does A Medical Marijuana Prescription Effect Employer Drug Testing Or Parole?

Currently, it remains the right of your employer to determine whether or not a medical cannabis prescription exempts you from testing positive on a drug screen. Please check with your employer prior to using medical cannabis and follow all company policies and procedures. We have many patients who are allowed to use medical cannabis and are not in violation of their company’s substance abuse policy.

It is up to the discretion of you parole officer to determine whether or not using medical cannabis is permissible. Please check with you parole officer prior to using medical cannabis. We have many patients who are permitted to use medical cannabis while on parole depending on their circumstances.
